AN IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR ALL AUDIENCE MEMBERS
We’re passionate about providing a diverse and inclusive space, open to one and all – but we need your help to make this work. Here’s a handy reminder of how a visit to the Cornwall Playhouse should play out…
ONE SIMPLE RULE
Kindness and tolerance for all – that’s our request to you.
That way, everyone gets to have a good time – happy audiences, happy team, happy memories for all. There’s lots of people here for a performance, so that might mean being patient and allowing us to sort out the odd issue. Bear with us, we promise it’s worth it.
AND… SHHH
Everyone experiences what we do in different ways. Generally, when the lights dim, we ask you to respect other audience members, keep any noise and movement to a minimum and remain in your seat unless stage performers invite participation.
NEED HELP?
Our team are happy to provide reasonable assistance if you have additional access requirements. We ask all audience members to show kindness and tolerance – Hall for Cornwall is open to all. We have good step-free access, and options for carer. We welcome trained assistance dogs. We have guidelines for involuntary noise and Accessibility which are reviewed regularly in line with current laws and best practice.
AIRPLANE MODE
Phones and cameras are distracting for everyone. Please keep them silenced and don’t get any devices out unless invited to by those on stage.
DRINK IN THE EXPERIENCE
Our license means you’re unable to bring alcohol or glass bottles in from outside Hall for Cornwall. We even check bags sometimes just to help the absent-minded. Most importantly, if we think you’ve had one too many, you’ll be refused admittance or asked to leave (that’s in our license too).
EAT OUT
Please ensure you’ve finished your hot food before you come in for the performance. And if you’re peckish, the interval’s a good time for a snack! Eating during the show can be distracting, smelly and off-putting for others.
BAGS
There’s no cloakroom, please leave bags and other bulky bits at home.
PUT IT OUT
We’re a smoke and vape-free zone.
GET HERE EARLY
If you arrive after the performance starts, we can’t guarantee admission but it usually isn’t a problem. We’ll ask you to wait outside until a suitable pause in the action. We have latecomer TV screens, so you shouldn’t miss a beat.
TOILETS – FLUSHING THROUGH CHANGE
We know toilets is a very personal subject. But let’s get into it..
We’re an inclusive organisation that provides gender-neutral toilets alongside separate gendered toilets for those who identify as male or female. If it isn’t clear where your nearest preferred toilet is, please ask us!
We’ve got accessible toilets on both sides of our building too, and you’ll also find Truro’s only publicly-accessible Space to Change is here too. As we’re in an historic building, some facilities are tucked away, but we can point you to a good variety of toilets on each level of the building. There’s always someone here to help, so if you’re not sure…just ask!
CHILDREN ARE OUR FUTURE
We love welcoming younger visitors. If you’re under 16 you’ll need to be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Where next?
Donate to our Community Club Ticket Bank and you’ll be giving local community groups the chance to experience the magic of the Cornwall Playhouse for the very first time. Your donation will go directly towards sharing the positive power of culture with those who’ll benefit most. Thank you.
