The Worm – Pantilde

The Ladder, Redruth

The Worm was waking up, they opened their eyes and saw that they were in a round room with cob walls and a thatched roof.
A thick blanket of smoke hung in the conical ceiling of the room, below which, a fire burned with a pot suspended above it on a metal chain.
The smell of the broth that bubbled in the pot was very good.
A pre teen entered the room carrying herbs in a basket.
They wore boots that looked like wellies but were made of thick leather with some lumps of mud and snow on the toes.
They walked in an uneven gait.
Their eyes went down at the edges, making them appear immediately friendly.
The Worm realised that they were not cold at all and had been dressed in a loosely woven tunic.
Lying on a straw bed nearby was another person, the parent maybe, they were asleep and looked like they might never wake up.
The young person crouched near the fire and stirred the broth.
“Hello, I am awake now” said The Worm.

Pantilde is a collection of music and sound performed on cello, harp and percussion by Mimi
